9=8

Our friends at Jacobs Media brought to light another sports related motivational trinket with the improbable World Series entry....

"The lowly Tampa Bay Rays with a minimum salary budget for players now find themselves in the World Series.  Deservedly so, there's been a great deal of attention aimed at their quirky manager, Joe Maddon.

Maddon started the season with a simple (?) philosophy he called "9=8," and bought shirts for his players to remind them of their goal.  It translates to 9 players playing hard for 9 innings every game, which would make the Rays one of the 8 playoff teams in baseball.  Of course, that's pretty much what ended up happening."

Our friends at Jacobs Media brought the philosophy in their blog to relate to radio programming but it has a deeper meaning in my mind in Sales.  My own math would translate into being face to face advancing the sales process with 9 clients each day equaling 8 productive hours at work.  We have adopted the "212" mantra here at LPG, giving that one extra degree of effort to make something magical happen.  If you haven't seen the movie, you need to.  If you are looking for a mantra for your own organization or have an interesting take on either one of these motivational trends, we would be very interested in your comments.
