Mar 8, 2010 by Sean LuceActually, the story really needs to be told about the reps and management of Durham Broadcasting/Online in the GTA-Greater Toronto Area wihch includes Toronto this past weekend. Before I do that, I'll be in Houston most of the week before possibly heading out to San Francisco, California late this week. I'll be catching up mostly today and tomorrow before getting back to full speed on Wednesday with many things going on in our other markets.
What happened in Toronto-short story. I was scheduled to leave early Thursday morning last week. (I had never felt better in the past two years either and even on Wednesday afternoon, I sent an email that said, I'll be in tip top shape and ready to go-never count your chickens before they hatch eh?) On Wednesday night, I was hit with the flu. In 10 years of speaking and consulting-outside of sinus infection-nothing other than a spider bite-no small thing either. Speakers can't call in sick. Thursday morning, the flight was moved to Thursday night to buy some time and hopefully be able to travel. Made the flight-landed at 10pm in Toronto. God's angel-also known as Carol-picked me up from the airport as I was tendered out of the plane and through customs in a wheelchair. No strength to walk or carry bags. Short ride to Toronto Airport Doubletree Hotel for rest. Friday morning, we're on. Great day. Rest on Friday night. Have to be ready for Saturday to go back on at 9am sharp. Now the story...Saturday is a non workday in Toronto-like most of the world...the reps were there on their own time, and they were paying half the freight of my fee, which is no small matter in any economy...so on their own time and with their own money...each one was waiting patiently as I arrived inside the hotel conference room at 8:55am-in their seats and raring to go. We had a great day again on Saturday. They displayed a great attitude and if you ever wondered who motivates the motivator? The audience does...it always does! Thank you to the reps and management of Durham for making it all a great experience. For whatever reason, I have always loved Toronto and Toronto has always been great to me. It's never failed!
So-today I'll be looking over management recaps and handling some phone calls and getting some energy back.
Remember, it's up to you to make it a great day!
My mantra has been over the last few years: Just make the plane- (also known in sales as-make sure you show up...or just make the call and see the client-it's half the battle in sales-get out of the office-nothing bad happens when your outside on the streets making sales calls-nothing happens inside the office when you're in outside sales-where it's most dangerous is where it's most exciting and prosperous-the sharks are outside the lagoon where the greatest catches are...)
