New Audio Consumption Statistics

Dec 3, 2009 by Mark Maier

Nielsen Chart : Audio Minutes

The chart shows how dominant broadcast AM/FM radio is, with literally 50% of the listening. The rest is divvied up among CD/tape players (16%), satellite radio (8%), iPod/MP3 players (5%), streamed audio on the computer (4%) and MP3s stored on a computer (4%). The statistics are from Nielsens How U.S. adults use Radio and Other Forms of Audio.

Now the challenge for us in the industry is to keep our audience engaged to the point that they don't want to look for other audio channels.nbsp;Does your property have that kind of relationship with your audience?

It would be interesting to see the break down by age group. If such data was available I think it would show the younger listeners ( under 35 ) are all online.
